Grocery Price Matching

Saturday, September 11, 2010

So this week was my first foray into price matching. Finally the paper sent me all the local grocery stores' flyers so I was able to compare and see what to buy. We're used to just buying what we want to eat, not worrying how much it cost, and not waiting to buy something that's on sale. I'm trying to change that. Now, instead of planning meals and purchasing food for them, I'm purchasing food and planning meals around that!

I must mention first that I finally purchased a Foodsaver machine. It is winging its way to me from Ebay as we speak. So for that reason, I felt comfortable buying extra of things, so they can be cut up and frozen for the fall. Now this week's goal is to locate and buy a used freezer for the garage to put all my frozen yummies in! Plus I have pulled my old dehydrator out and we'll see what yummies I can make with it!

Not all purchases are shown. We had already put some up and as you can see from the breads, we ate some as well.

2 cabbages ($3.12 for both)
2 lettuce ($1.38 for both)
2 cucumbers ($1 for both)
2 green peppers ($1 for both)
10 red/orange peppers ($10)
10 lbs apples ($6.90)
11 lbs tomatoes ($8.00)
2 pkgs bath tissue ($10)
20 bags Malt-o-meal cereals ($0.50 ea)
9 Good Life buttery spreads (all free!)
2 artisan breads (1 free, other discounted w/coupon)
4 Barilla pasta ($2.36 all 4)
Mixed nuts (clearance rack $2)
2 ice cream 1/2 gallons ($1.88 ea)

Note: Walmart would not price match on the chicken so I headed over to Sunfresh to pick up the original chicken deal there. Walmart also did not have the smaller bags of cereal so I bought those there as well.

(not all meat shown)
18 lbs chicken breasts ($.88 lb)
10+ lbs pork chops and pork stew meat (discounted prices)

This week's total: $96.07

It's not the low number I want it to be but this is lots more food than we'll eat in a week, might cover two weeks with lots frozen for later. I think I did pretty well! Yay for price matching!

I'm Baaaccckkkk!!!

Thursday, September 9, 2010

Yes, its been just about a month of no couponing. Okay, I might have done a few deals a few weeks ago but never posted about them. I'm sure I'll eventually share them, just to keep a visual diary of all that I've purchased. However, I did get some deals today, even  WITHOUT coupons!! Read on...

Today I was heading out, looked in my wallet and realized some of my CVS Extra Care Bucks had expired yesterday. PANIC!! That was a good chunk of money, about $14.00. I don't like to waste money so I popped into my local CVS, even without a plan or coupons and asked if they would honor the ECBs. They were very kind and offered to do just that. I love my CVS!

The clearance section was a gold mine today. Don't forget to check yours every time. In previous visits I've come home with free makeup and about 10 free hairdye kits (after coupons.) It pays to look around the whole store.

I started this trip with $14.00 ECBs (10 on one card, $4 on another. I joined my two purchases here to save time.)

Excedrine Migraine (Orig. $10.99, sale $9.99)
(2) Dentyne Pure (Orig. $1.29, sale $0.99)
(4) Safeguard 4pk Soap (Orig. $2.99, clearance $0.30)
(3) Softsoap Ensembles Hand Soap Pump (Orig. $7.99, clearance $0.80)
(5) Softsoap Ensembles Hand Soap Refills (Orig. $3.99, clearance $0.40)
(2) CVS Smooth Skin Lotion (Orig. $5.99, clearance $0.80)
MG217 Medicated Tar Treatment (Orig. $9.99, clearance $0.40)
CVS Earth Essentials Room Mist (Orig. $3.99, clearance $0.39)
(6) CVS Foaming Hand Soap (Orig. $1.99, clearance $0.20)

Spent OOP: $6.77 (after $14 in ECBs)
Original Cost of Items: $107.35
Savings: $100.58
94% Savings!
+ Received $7 in ECBs ($5 for Excedrin, $1 each gum pk)

Coupon Kiosk Update: Mine spit out the following for me today:
$5 off $30 purchase
Free Beauty charm w/$15 Beauty purchase
$3 off Almay Cosmetic
$3 of $10 grocery purchase (9/10 only)

I realize I have $10 more in ECBs that expire TODAY so I will be perusing the sale posts to see what I can use my money on WITH coupons. Stay tuned...

I think the best deal (besides the free Post It notes) was on the tape. 3 were $1.50 and with the $1 off/3, I paid $0.50 for 3 tapes! Like paying $0.17 each!

It was not a Super Target so I plan to go back and used my Gift Cards and pick up some yogurt, free Bic pens, more free Post It notes. I also want to do the cheese/free bread deal from the flyer. Hopefully everything won't be gone by the time I get there.

8/09 CVS MoneyMaker!

Tuesday, August 10, 2010

Well! August started off with a fizzle! 10 days of sickness really cut into my couponing days. It just seems wrong to miss out on a week of good deals! Oh well, I'm back on my game now. Yesterday I went to CVS to do some deals there. It was a definite moneymaker!

*NOTE: IF anyone needs the Dulcolax rebate form, I have an extra. Just holler.*

(not shown: 2 Lipton tea jugs, 3 candy bars already devoured)

I have two CVS cards so I did these on separate ones to do the deals twice (bought 1 Dulcolax/Schick shaver on one, bought everything else on the other) but I'm putting them together in one list to save time.

Started with $14.98 in ECBs to use, plus a $5 off $30 purchase that printed at the CVS card kiosk

(2) Dulcolax (Orig. $12.99, sale $9.99)
used $4/1 coupon 5/16 SS
used $3/1 coupon 8/8 SS or Dulcolax website here
bottles had rebate tags on them that expired in February, but the company assures me they are honoring them til the fall, so get those in for $5 back!
(2) Hydro Schick (Orig. $9.99, sale $8.97)
used (2) $5/1 coupons 8/8 SS
you can send in for the Schick rebate of one Razor's price: form here
(2) Lipton Tea Jugs (Orig. $3.49, sale $2/$5)
(2) Airwick IMotion Kits (Orig. $9.99, sale $4.99)
used (2) $4/1 coupons 8/8 SS or Airwick website here
(3) Candy Bars (Orig: $0.89, sale B2G1 free)
(4) Almay makeup products (Orig. $7.99, clearance $2)
tried to have them do the B1G1 1/2 off deal on Almay but they wouldn't do it for clearance items, even though the ad didn't say that.
used (4) $1/1 coupons 7/25 SS
(2) Bic Disposable Razor sets (Orig. $3.99, sale B1G1 1/2 off)
used B1G1 free coupon 8/1 SS (it took off $3.99)
Xtra Detergent (Orig. $2.99, sale $1.99)
used $1/1 coupon 6/6 SS
Visine Eye Drops (Orig. $6.99, sale $3.99)
used $3/1 coupon here

Spent OOP: $37.65 - $5 off $30 - $14.98 ECB = $17.67
Original Cost of Items: $125.51
Savings: $107.84
86% Savings!
+ Received $27.98 ECBs + $5 Dulcolax rebate coming
Definite $15.31 moneymaker!! Or even if you didn't have the $14.98 ECBs I had, you make $0.33 at least.

Kmart Couponing

Saturday, July 31, 2010

I wish I lived closer to the Kmart I went to this week. I'm sure there are deals to be had there on a regular basis but I wonder if they would ever be as sweet as my Target/Walgreens/CVS deals? I had to run by this week though because they're having their 'Double Coupon' days. You can use 5 coupons a day, up to $0.99 doubled. That was worth it to me.

(5) General Mills Cereals (Orig. $3.99, sale 5/$10)
*Note: Not all GM were on sale, only select ones
used (5) $0.75 coupons (no longer available) that they doubled
(2) Hartz Crunch Clean Cat Treats (Orig. $1.99)
used (2) $1.50/1 coupons (no longer available)

Spent OOP: $3.48
Original Cost of Items: $23.93
Savings: $20.45
86% Savings!

Does anyone shop at Kmart regularly with coupons? I'd like to know about your experiences and if the trip is worth it!

Christmas TOYS Shopping Extravaganza!!!

Friday, July 30, 2010

So, yesterday was the big day for most Targets across the country. 75% off select toys. Many were already on clearance and were marked down even further! I'm so glad I read deals forum boards sometimes. This was definitely not the sale to miss!

(not pictured: screenprinting kit, 7 SkelAnimals the dd picked out and are sleeping on her bed now)

I have now just about covered 6 children's Christmases, a couple items for a teen, 3 children's birthdays, a couple toys to donate to Toys for Tots (which we usually do anyway) and I stocked away several things I know sell pretty well on Ebay at Christmas time. Do you know how I know? I bought very similar items last year! lol I didn't load up 7 carts like I heard some people did and were clearly only there to gather it all to sell on Ebay. But I did buy several things to sell. I figure, the money made off them will buy the Christmas presents for the rest of my family. Win win situation for me!

None of the 4 Targets I went to had Legos or Star Wars on sale like so many people are saying their stores had. Those are the two main things I was shopping for. I did however score a few Playmobil pieces, so I'm very happy with that.

I bought 55 toys with an average spent of: $3.18 a piece. I call this a fabulous deal!

Spent OOP: $174.75
Original Costs: $699.00
Savings: $524.25
75% Savings!!

Stay tuned for tomorrow's Post - Almost free CEREAL & Cat Treats!
